Copacabana Beach

Unfortunately, the day I went to visit Copacabana Beach, only two or three Metro stops from Botafogo, it was overcast and a weekday. So, not a hell of a lot going on there. Afternoon it warmed up a little and the sky was a tad friendlier and a few more people came out. Still, I was told, this was just a shadow of what it was like during the tourist season. Here we see the famed sidewalk pattern that we will see again featured during the 2016 summer Olympic Games.

Crappy weather or not, I was here, now, and had to make the best of it. So I went and wandered all the way to almost the end of this beach.

There you'll find the large coastal defense position named Fort Copacabana.

By the time I got to the far end, the sun started peeking through, here and there, and magically people appeared, not many, but enough to make this a little more entertaining visit.

In that direction, back toward Botafogo, you can see the Sugarloaf Mountain, so you can see, this beach is not all that far from there.

It was as if everyone was just hanging around waiting to expode onto the beach. Especially the muscled up guys, who get validation from being seen. I don't mean the crack guy. And of course the beach bunnies, old and young, showed off what they had. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
